Cathy McNeal loves ancient history and cannot wait until she can go on her first dig in the sands of the Middle East. When she encounters two professors of Egyptology at one of her father’s business dinners, she is instantly attracted to the younger one, while being slightly uneasy with his colleague.
Dr. Eqin O’Connor is studying under Dr. Hasan Ali Al-Abud and assisting with his research for the one human/alien hybrid that could reveal the hiding place of ancient scrolls. Eqin, having pinpointed Cathy as The One depicted in Krinis legends, develops feelings for her while Professor Al-Abud cautions him against getting emotionally attached. Both of them for different reasons keep an eye on her.
When Cathy’s friend Darren commits suicide, she recalls his strange conversation about aliens. Eqin comforts Cathy and gives her a necklace when Professor Al-Abud appears and reveals both of their alien origins. From then on, Cathy’s dreams are thrust into the past and her place in it. What or who is she really?
Ms. Petra Theunissen has written a fantastic story full of past lives and ancient enemies. Cathy is the blunt modern heroine, who takes nothing from any one including her alien self/ancestor in her quest for destiny. Eqin is the self-sacrificing hero who falls in love with the extraordinary human. Their relationship is chaste throughout making their budding romance, sweet and tender. The minor characters enrich the story that is complex and thoroughly engaging making it an excellent mental escape. I was captivated.
