Rachel Fairfield wants to break the women’s altitude record when the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta arrives. Unfortunately someone decides to send some threatening notes just after her father is released from prison, something that Rachel’s testimony was responsible.

Ron Parker believes that his sister, Charlie Parker, his accountant and part time PI, will be better at handling the case than the police in a threat situation.

Charlie Parker believes that Rachel’s personal life holds some secrets concerning her father and she intends on searching more about the case. She feels that Rachel may need further protection.

William Fairfield, Rachel’s father, has just been released from prison.

Rachel was fourteen when her father was sentenced to prison, fifteen years ago. Now that her brother has staged a huge publicity campaign for her and the upcoming Balloon Fiesta, she has received strange notes using the same phrase that her father used on her before he went to prison. The only person who can help her in the weeks ahead is Charlie Parker. Rachel feels that Charlie will give her the protection she needs. Ron had already mentioned that his sister would be a huge help in the matter. Even though it would most likely take the Secret Service to keep a constant eye on Rachel among the huge crowds, Ron is certain that Charlie can at least keep a vigil eye on the whereabouts of Rachel’s father. Charlie begins a thorough search, not only into the life of Rachel’s past with her father, but further with any of her associates or even any ex-boyfriends. With the Balloon Fiesta on the way, someone sets their sights on Rachel and any attempts for her to break any records. Ron and Charlie pull all stops to try to locate the deadly stalker that seeks Rachel harm, as it pits Charlie plunging into her own personal matters within her estranged relationship, too. But the closer Charlie gets to the past about William; she and Ron begin to wonder if he is really the dangerous one.

Atop the beautiful blue sky with the lovely colors of nature fanning as a wonderful backdrop below, Rachel is determined to do what she has dreamed. I love her strength, power and will, to continue at any costs, which is why I enjoyed Balloons Can Be Murder. She is not looking for fame nor the ambitions that her father held; she does it because she wants to. Ms. Shelton fashions a story between an estranged father, a family with secrets and a daughter who is trying to understand her life. The private investigators, Ron and Charlie kept me rooted to the storyline completely. Charlie is a great character that made me wish I could be in her shoes solving the case. For some thrills and high-rising suspense, and a clever plot, this is one tale that cleverly spins in this thriller, as father and daughter comes to term with their past with an ending that will blow you away.
