Susannah Makepeace grew up wealthy. Her mother passed away, but her father was loving if inattentive. One day Susannah’s life comes falling down around her and she finds herself not only poor but kicked out of her home and living with an aunt. As Susannah adapts to the country life, she runs into Viscount Christopher Kit Whitelaw, who she came across naked. Now Susannah is very interested in the mysterious Kit.

Kit Whitelaw is a spy and although he is good at what he does, he has crossed the line this time. His father has given him an ultimatum; either be banished to the country estate or be sent to Egypt. Kit chose his country estate. Little did he know that he would not only be spying, but he may also end up in love.

When Kit meets Susannah he realizes she is the girl that stumbled across him while he was swimming naked. He likes Susannah and considers her a fantastic painter. Suddenly a series of events happen to make Kit believe Susannah is in danger. But why Susannah, and what is the mystery behind her father’s death? Neither Susannah nor Kit has any idea the lies and secrets that have been held back for years, which involve both Kit and Susannah.

This is a wonderfully written historical romance. Fully detailed to give you the feeling you were in that era, and beautifully described for the imagination. The characters are created with depth and history and when pulled all together with mystery, lies, secrets and sensual romance you have an excellent read.
