Billy Killdeere has always been an outlaw. Ever since his parents’ death, he has tried to keep the ranch maintained. When he tells his Uncle Moses he no longer wishes to ride with the gang, things turn dangerous.
Uncle Moses runs the outfit with an iron fist. He believes in stealing from banks and trains, using the money for the Confederacy. When someone wishes to leave the gang, he hates having his plans ruined.
Uncle Moses told Billy the reason they robbed trains, banks, and coaches was to use the money so the South could rise again. Billy often questions his saying. He grows tired of the outlaw life and decides to become a reformed outlaw. After his herd is stolen, he is getting ready to sell; he is the one being arrested. The sheriff is tired of the Killdeere clan taking over everything. Now Billy is on the run for his life. While wounded, hunted and far from any safe place, he finds security within a wagon train where he meets Jennifer. Uncle Moses wants Billy in the gang. He will do whatever it takes to get him back, even using Jenny. Now Billy must take his stand with his uncle while saving Jenny.
If you want to read a good western with real action at every turn, Billy Killdeere is the book to grab. Lee Aaron Wilson does an excellent job in this action-packed tale, with the good, and the bad, and well-rounded characters that keep the action coming. The more Billy strove to leave his outlaw family, the more I kept my fingers crossed he would come out winning. The characters and plot are in-depth, even showing the distrust of the law when Billy wishes to turn clean. These memorable characters still stick in my head.
