Lord Rainer Allen is in charge of Vampire Sector #401 in Taggart’s Bend and he is
sexually aroused.  Despite all of his friend’s flirtatious overtures, he has had to forego
their many charms for their own safety.  To exchange any bodily fluids with another
besides his soul mate would cause death to his lover and possibly himself.  That is the
blood price to be paid for indulging in casual dalliances, so he refrains from
participating.

Steven needs blood to survive and his only option is to visit a vampire club.  Although he
is not a vampire, he is not entirely human, either.  That causes speculation amongst the
patrons at the Cork and Casket pub.  Letting them assume he has recently been turned
allows him entrance into their inner sanctum.  When he wanders into Lord Allen, he is
struck not by fear, but by its absence.

Lord Allen and Steven enter into an unlikely friendship based on mutual attraction and
fascination.  While walking to Rainer’s farmhouse, they are besieged by revelers with
paint ball guns full of blood.  The lord’s physical reaction to the blood has Steven
worrying for the lord’s life.  Will Rainer survive the night?

Ms. Kira Stone has written a sexy tome about gay love between a vampire and a
human.  I immediately got caught up in the interaction between the two principle
characters, and their lusty thoughts about each other seemed quite natural.  I
sympathized with Steven over Lord Allen’s fate and the lord’s tender ways with Steven
seemed sincere.  I enjoyed this glimpse into an alternative lifestyle.
