Angela Harris wanted to be a ballerina but her mother said she was fat, ugly, and had the grace of a hippo. In tears, Angela met a stranger who changed her life.

Tommy Davies was a football player who went to school with Angela. Something clicked after they started dating, then she changed and nothing was the same anymore.

Angela and her mother are poor, living in a rat infested apartment. She never met her father but he sent support payments. After her mother’s constant badgering, she met a stranger on a balcony who offered her support then died. She later slimmed down and her mother urged her to wear low-cut dresses to grab a man and move out. Angela and Tommy are friends in high school and start dating. He takes her to meet his parents. Tragedy strikes when she returns home and finds her mother dead. She finds comfort with Rory, her guardian angel. He offers her a life of change, but she is not happy with the dark life of feeding and hunting. She wishes to be with Tommy, but how can she tell him a vampire abducted her? Is she fated to be doomed the rest of her life?

Blood Angel is a motivating read. I could share in the pain that Angela felt with rejection. I could have shaken her mother a couple of times. There were moments I could almost relate to her character. I like the way she breaks through some of her shyness and low self-esteem to finally stand on her feet at times. The plot was well-created, and I liked the way Angela, Tommy and Rory were thrown into this equation. Anastasia Rabiyah draws believable characters and weaves a unique tale that kept this reader entertained.
