Bailey Carson, daughter of an Ohio preacher, is determined to follow her dreams and become a country singer. While singing at Slick Willie’s, she becomes fascinated with one of the customers who liberally tip. Little does she know that while she is obsessing about the stranger, he is obsessing about her.
Aaron Montana burned by a cheating ex-wife, dreams of the sultry voiced vixen at Slick Willie’s. Unable to approach her for fear of rejection, he contents himself with listening to her soothing voice. When his fellow firefighter makes an inappropriate comment about her, his anger and his fists lash out.
Bailey seeks out Aaron after witnessing a domestic dispute that ends in death. As luck would have it, he is present at the firehouse when she appears with a cake. When she confesses her desire for him, he admits the same feelings for her and they share an exciting night of pleasure. Aaron starts to doubt Bailey’s feelings when she fails to appear at the bar until her girlfriend approaches him in a panic. What could have happened to her?
Ms. Romano has written a great read. Bailey is the determined singer, bent on making her dreams come true while Aaron is the wounded soul, haunted by his ex-wife’s infidelity. Their mutual secret yearning for each other makes their vulnerability quite apparent and when her mysterious disappearance leaves a void in Aaron’s heart, most readers will feel for him. I liked their circumstantial reunion.
