Mark Stoddard is a detective for the Pomo Police Department. When a woman is heard screaming outside the restaurant where he has just finished his lunch about someone being dead, he knows it is going to be a long afternoon. Approaching the woman and attempting to calm her down, the detective manages to get the information he needs. Apparently the owner of Tole Way, a craft store, has been found lying dead on her back room floor, covered in paint. Alixis Marie Montgomery is the owner of a successful craft store called Tole Way. Having left her husband four years ago and actively looking for a well-to-do replacement, she has garnered a reputation for being a man trap among the women of Pomo. When she is killed during a lunch break, the women attending craft classes become immediate suspects. Detective Stoddard starts an investigation that includes the chief of Police’s wife, which makes it imperative that he rule her out quickly and quietly. Unfortunately his findings prove otherwise, and his inquiries into the affairs of Alix Montgomery become mired in rumors and misleading clues. Will he ever find her killer? Mr. J.D. Crayne has written a complex mystery with ever changing suspects and motivations. The characters all have their reasons, but are they powerful enough to commit murder? The hero figures out the truth after careful deduction and the true killer is revealed in a surprising way. I became wrapped up in the plots and motivations from the first page. I truly enjoyed this book. Kathy Reviewer for Coffee Time Romance Reviewer for Karen Find Out About New Books |
