Eppie knows her mate is out there somewhere and wishes he would join her soon. They can talk to each through their minds and that is how she knows they are to mate for life. But time is running short. She focuses on her love of botany, but will that be enough to keep her from worrying?

Dancer is sick of being an assassin and decides to find his own life. He wants to find out who killed his family and be able to prove it. He talks to a woman with his mind and thinks he is dreaming it all. But is he?

Leaving the outside world and living in a cave seems the perfect place for Dancer. But then he starts to smell flowers and it is winter outside. He decides to find the source of the aroma and finds himself in a tunnel. On the other side is Mystic Valley and there he finds Eppie. She tells him that they have to mate soon since her body is ready to produce a child. If she does not do something soon, she will die. Dancer has a difficult time understanding this and Eppie can only hope she can get the message through to him.

Introduction into a new culture takes time for adjustment. But when there is not a lot of time to adjust Dancer must quickly decide if he wants to remain in this place. Eppie does her best to help him through his adjustment, but cannot make the final decision for him. Trust is very important and could bind them together forever. This is one story that I could not put down and I enjoyed the world that Ms. Cook created.
