Brandon Noble is a member of a dwindling breed called the Brethren. Brutally assaulted when he was four years old, his family considered his deafness and inability to speak a liability to them and chose to ignore him. What use had they for a mute and deaf vampire? Striving to be nothing like his siblings, he runs away. Can he run away from his nature in the process?
Angelina (Lina) Jones is a police officer. While tending her deaf brother’s exotic plants she encounters one of his students in his apartment. Fresh from the shower she confronts the student who she instantly recognizes as Brandon. Jackson had asked her to look after Brandon while he was in town. Angelina never realizes what that would all entail.
Brandon’s siblings track him to Jackson’s apartment. Lina, discovering their true nature, instantly defends Brandon. Tessa, Brandon’s sister, shows up to forewarn him of the Elders plans to destroy him and he hides. Will he be able to conceal his whereabouts? And what of his growing love for Lina, a human?
Ms. Sara Reinke has written a beautiful love story with plot twists galore. Brandon’s shy demeanor will endear him to any reader; his family’s brutal treatment of him is heartbreaking. Angelina comes across as the strong woman who defends her man at all costs, regardless of their differences. The enemy being his family adds to the unpredictable conclusion. Then there is the French speaking Cajun who adds a nice and unexpected quirk. I adored this story and recommend it highly. Thanks, Ms. Reinke for another excellent read.
