Grace Montgomery was only thirteen when things went haywire in just one simple night. With a body buried behind a Mississippi farmhouse, she is the one that knows the identity, and no matter what happens, she must never reveal a thing.
Kennedy Archer enjoyed teasing Grace in high school. He knew all about the gossip that spread concerning her family. As a candidate for Mayor, the last thing he needs when she returns is to be seen around town with her. But this Grace is different, and when others urge him to stay clear of her, he lets them know he can make his own decisions.
Thirteen years ago, Grace said goodbye to the town of Stillwater and to a past that she never wanted revealed. Now, as an Assistant District Attorney in Jackson, she never wished to see Stillwater, Mississippi, or the past that haunted her many years. When she has to return to her old home confronting the townspeople, who had loved to tease and brand her family as murderers, she knows it will not be long before the secret will uncover itself. She never wanted to confront Kennedy, a boy that always had everything. Kennedy is surprised to see a changed Grace. She has grown into a beautiful, independent woman who is unconcerned what others think. The more time they spend with each other, he begins to learn of the past secret and, as his feelings grow for her, he wonders if he can protect her when things turn dangerous. Grace learns she has feelings for Kennedy. Still, she cannot love him the way a woman should love a man because it would be too risky with the secret still in the town.
Dead Silence is a fascinating book read that mesmerizes from the beginning. The character of Grace is beautiful throughout the book. The way she goes through life as a misunderstood teen really brings attention to the reader. As the years pass and Grace connects with Kennedy, the reader can see the changes both characters endure as they mature together. Ms. Novak spins a captivating suspense that allows the reader to feel the emotions of Grace. With the blending of mystery and romance, she sprinkles just the right amount of tension to engage the reader until the conclusion. She adds in-depth secondary characters with intense conversation that this reader could feel, along with a richness to the story that has all the makings of an excellent romantic thrilling suspense. I could visualize even the surroundings. One extraordinary book that deserves a 5-cup rating in this engaging tale that packs a walloping punch. I am anxious for the next book!
