Eliza Lily has been living a lie. She knows little about her past, but lately she has been getting little snippets of it in dreams. She is enjoying life but keeps part of herself held back because she is always wondering what happened to her foster father and if she caused him to leave. When William comes back, she starts to wonder if what she feels now is just hero-worship, or if it turned into love.

William Bennett returns home to find a beautiful woman has taken the place of the child he remembers. Overcome with emotions, he is determined to keep at bay. He decides to take his father's advice and stay focused on business. His broken heart makes him not want to trust again.

William wants to see Eliza married and enlists the help of Minetta to train Eliza properly. Tugging at the hearts of Eliza and William are feelings they both need to explore. Eliza is willing to some extent but William is stuck in the old-fashioned ways of his father. Can Eliza figure out what happened the night she left the town of Independence or will her heart stay closed?

Society held propriety high in the 1920’s and William feels led to follow them. Eliza just wants to help people in need. If they could only see eye to eye, the passion would be intense. Ms. Gaia is an emotional writer. I found myself swept up in the story. Eliza and William are two wonderful people who may be able to have it all. I truly hoped that they could get over the past and start a new life together.
