Annabelle Hawthorne is plagued with losing her sight and possibly even facing death unless a way is found to repair the damage she has caused herself. A spell has backfired leaving her this way and she is getting worse. After her father is captured by Lord Malachi, she must try to save him, even in her condition.
Lord Malachi Hawthorne has been horribly disfigured by a curse put upon him and now spends his days being bitter and hiding. Until he captures Annabelle's father, Delbert, trying to steal from him. Lord Hawthorne is impressed that a woman like Annabelle would try to bargain for a man as lowly as Delbert, and he is transfixed by her beauty. However, he fears that once she really sees him she will be horrified like all the rest.
The world Annabelle grew up in is nothing but memories and lies. Who and what she is has been kept secret and it seems that both she and Malachi are right in the midst of a battle between Ring Roland and Queen Zara. But if this a battle between good and evil, or one made of much more than that? Secrets come to light as the battle lines and loyalties are drawn.
Enchanted Beauty is such a great twist on "The Beauty and the Beast". It has magic and wonder, love and loss, betrayal and loyalty; only who is on whose side is the question. I very much enjoyed the range of characters and where they belonged throughout the story. There is always something going on to keep the reader entertained and held captive in the story. Ms. Mathews has written a fantasy with a twist that you will want to take the time to read. Go grab a comfy chair and enjoy.
