Relationship Novel
Rating: 4 Cups

Reverend Sam Kinkade finds a church where he feels at home. Toms Brook, VA provides the atmosphere and congregation he needs to preach from his own point of view and to make a difference in the community, specifically the growing Hispanic population. He has already spent some time in prison for being a non-conformist and it only made him more determined to do things his way. Unfortunately, his fiancé of several years has different plans for him. Christine wants him to preach to a more affluent group and in a locale more conducive to her lifestyle. The quaintness of the town and the church’s quilting circle hold no appeal for her.

Elisa looks for work and ends up at the church applying for the job as Sexton. Traces of Hispanic ethnicity and her willingness to do whatever the job requires make her an excellent candidate. Sam plans to convert a small house in the back of the church to “La Casa,” a place to help Hispanic children learn to speak English and Elisa could lend a hand. She, like Sam, is looking for escape from the past and searching for a brother about whom no one knows. Both Elisa and Sam have secrets and it does not take long for them to find a mutual attraction and a soul connection.

Sam is involved in a relationship that is going nowhere. He has nothing in common with his fiancé except for physical attraction. He must to face the fact that their love is not the kind on which a marriage is built. Elisa has a secret past. Putting it behind her is not possible until she finds her missing brother. The job at the church gives her the perfect chance to re-connect with her roots and hope that her brother finds his way to her. Falling in love with the pastor was not in her plans.

Endless Chain by Emilie Richards is more than just a romance. Classified as a ‘relationship novel’, it does indeed cover connections between a multitude of characters as well as give a glimpse into history through old letters. From the women who share a love for quilting and meet at the church weekly, to Elisa’s friendship with Adonica, to the tensions between a troubled teen and his alcoholic father, the story weaves a tale as true as the title. You will be captivated by every character, feel the passion, the hatred and the pain, and you’ll glory in the outcome. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and highly recommend this entertaining book, only one part of the Shenandoah Album.
