Molly Harper wants answers. She wants to know who killed her sister and where her niece Katie is. Frustrated by the lack of aid the officials are giving her, Molly - with the help of a feline detective, Familiar - piece together the clues in a race to save Katie. But what about her growing feeling for Thomas? Can she trust him with her secret?
Thomas Lakewood is not going to take the blame for murdering a woman and her child. This determined cowboy turned computer specialist has a few tricks up his sleeve and if it means turning fugitive, so be it. Molly is everything Thomas has ever desired.
Molly will do anything to find her niece; even help the man accused of murdering her sister. Fugitives from the law, Molly and Thomas, with the help of a feline detective, start to piece together a crime while leaving dead bodies in their wake. As the clues are gathered and pieces of the puzzle fall into place, their discovery will shake the very foundation of the town.
This is the seventeenth book written by Ms. Burnes using the highly intelligent feline, Familiar, and surprisingly my first exposure to the cat detective. The story held enough twist and turns to keep the reader interested, while not relying too heavily on feline viewpoint. I found the characters believable and engaging, with realistic dialogue. I hope Ms. Burnes continues with her Familiar tales, for her fans and cat lovers will enjoy the continuing adventures and mysteries of a talented cat.
