Maggie Forsythe is still upset after being dumped by her fiancé right before their wedding. Thanks to some caring friends, instead of staying at home feeling sorry for herself, she agrees to help renovate a home. A little constructive work helps mend a broken heart, or perhaps prepares her for a new love interest.

Josh Parker’s first impression of Maggie is that she is a foolish Southern belle who would not know a paintbrush from a hairbrush. He gets a surprise when he finds out that she is actually quite knowledgeable in the way of house renovations. The more time he spends with her, the harder he starts to fall.

What ensues is a delightful and often amusing decent into Josh and Maggie’s mutual affections. Between working on the house, meddling family members, and their own stubbornness, neither one wants to make the first move. The involvement of the families gives this book its whimsy, and most humorous, moments. It also gives us an inside look at the way people forget their own issues long enough to work together within the community.

Flirting with Disaster is written with a soft hand and develops the characters seamlessly. The storyline is fresh and takes the reader through a multitude of emotions where you will laugh, cry, and swoon. Ms. Woods takes the time to make us care about the main characters, which is always a plus with me. I fell head over heels for the eccentric Maggie Forsythe who reminded me of one of my best friends. There are tender moments, witty dialogue, and comedic events that keep the pace of the book moving right along. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who is a hopeless romantic, and I am proud to be one.
