Lady Alys is beautiful, but seems vague and less than intelligent to most. Her dream is
to be a writer and the only place for her to accomplish her goal is in the cloister of St.
Brigid. She has no wish to become a nun, but sees no alternative and no man has
tempted her to change her mind - until she meets Sir Padrig.
Padrig is a landless knight serving Sir Rannulf. He is assigned to bring Lady Alys to her
father at another noble’s stronghold. He is far below Alys in station, but the more he gets
to know her, he realizes that she is so much more than the scatterbrain she portrayed at
Sir Rannulf’s keep.
Alys and Padrig face many dangers including a fierce storm and marauding Welshmen,
in addition to Alys’ worries about her future; whether it be in the cloister, with Padrig, or
with her parents' choice. They long to be together, but Padrig is a landless knight and
Alys has little to say about her future.
This is a wonderful historical romance with strong characters and sensuous love
scenes. The supporting characters are colorful and likeable also. The setting in the
Middle Ages is very well drawn and the reader will have no problem picturing herself
right there with Alys. This is the seventh book in a series, and I intend to read the rest.
