The half-breed daughter of a Laren alien, Angel Whitedove’s life is one filled with the nightmare of abductions. Determined to fight her tormentors, the Greys, by isolating herself; Angel hopes to protect the innocents from enduring her pain. Betrayed by those in power, she has to put her very life into Darek’s hands and pray that her heart remains in one piece.

Darek is on a mission. Bring back the fugitive Laaen Whitedove for execution. If that means using Laaen's daughter Angel to do it, so be it. Soon Darek is questioning his people’s laws as he faces an enemy that one day just vanished from his world. Determined now to protect Angel, his love grows for his soul mate. Betrayed by members of his crew, Darek will need more than luck to save them.

Angel gathered research against her alien abductor in hopes of helping others deal with the incidents. Darek’s questions leave her uneasy, trust is not easily come by when reporters lurk around every corner. They soon discover that they have a common enemy, the Greys, and a battle for their two worlds escalate leading them on a race to find the home world before its too late for all of them.

Ms. Paul has done a fantastic job in not only world-building, but creating memorable characters who leave you sitting on the edge of your seat. Although the writing was nearly flawless, the theme and tone of story was smooth and engaging drawing you into a well-developed and original twist on alien abductions. I would enjoy seeing a sequel to Getting Out Alive.
