Nickie Grace is in Parkersburgh to remodel the home left to her in her aunt's will. Nickie has come to Parkersburgh to heal after a bad marriage. She needed some space, and remodeling is what Nickie does for a living. One night Nickie has a prowler and Deputy Hank Crossman and Pete Rayne come to check things out. Hank Crossman is attractive, but Nickie is not ready for a relationship.
Hank Crossman is really attracted to Nickie, but he has a painful past with a no good father and a mother that was not much better. Hank only gets so close and that is it. Hank has a woman he goes to for his needs, but he does not want a relationship. When someone seems to keep harassing Nickie, Hank cannot seem to keep his hands, or his mind, off of Nickie.
When an array of events against Nickie proves she is being harassed, Hank wants her to live with him until things are settled. Nickie agrees, only until they find out who is doing the attacks. Nickie and Hank start to have a good relationship going until Hanks father shows up, and all of Hank's fears rear their ugly head. Hank pulls away from Nickie, but keeps up the investigation because Hank is sure the next time Nickie could be killed. But the attacker is closer to them than they think, and when Nickie is kidnapped, Hank knows he has to find her, and keep her.
Ms. Quinn does an outstanding job of getting to the emotions of Hank and Nickie, showing both their strengths and weaknesses. A sexy, but spine tingling story, you will be pulled in right from the first and completely enthralled by the end. With a quick, steady pace you will find everything in this book from suspense to some very spicy love scenes. And for an extra surprise and bonus you will see a second couple come together. This is the first book I have read by this author, but I will definitely be looking for more in the future.
