Karen Whitmire refuses to be manipulated by any man. After seeing her step dad put her mother in the hospital, she is cautious around men; until one night of needed comfort gives her a baby nine months later.
Dr. Nick Chandler feels he will never be the marrying type. His ex-fiancé committed suicide while she was pregnant, leaving him with doubts of being with a woman, or ever being a father.
Eleven months later, Karen wonders why she never contacted Nick again. Instead, after that one night stand, she chose to raise daughter Sierra alone, but now wishes she had help. When she rushes Sierra to the hospital for a high fever, her wish comes faster than she thought when she is once again confronted with Nick. Both are shocked to see the other, and more so for Nick, who soon learns that Sierra could be his daughter. He begins to feel that Karen is no better than the way Amanda treated him. He has never forgotten Karen and while holding Sierra, pleasant thoughts of a second chance at fatherhood tap into this mind. As Nick and Karen discover each other and spend time with Sierra, developments with Amanda soon surface, making Nick and Karen discover the real meaning of love and trust.
In the Nick of Time is about learning to love, trust, and just finding that certain someone to make a difference. The reactions of Karen with her upbringing and the emotions of Nick with his mistrust of women is feasibly seen in the pages. When he was holding Sierra for the first time, it was so heartwarming. Ms. Brannon stirs a stimulating read that really pulls the reader into the intense storyline. She creates an enjoyable read with just the right amount of romance and suspense.
