Zira Teynor is a courier for the Allied Intelligence and does not like the Ketomir Empire. When a fire spreads through the ventilation system, she flees the imprisoned cell. After inhaling much of the smoke, she finds herself racing for safety - but is not alone.

Tige is a Thalian warrior. He can go days without water, weeks without food, and withstand much torture. When he is freed from a prison cell after a fire, he joins Zira. As they fight to survive, his desire for her intensifies. The Thalian curse, Ken’Ja, urges him to mate or die. He does not know how long he can keep his advances clear of the lovely human.

Zira is not happy that the Ketomir Empire took over part of the sector of the galaxy, causing every allied race to suffer. She and Tige are able to escape, but must learn to survive until they are rescued. Tige was aboard the Ketomir for a year. His crime was killing a prison guard. Zira is resourceful, clever, strong, and believes they can survive as long as the enemy does not find them. What bothers them is their growing attraction for each other and Zira does not understand the real reason he first begins to turn her away. He believes if he follows his desire, he could cause her considerable damage. This leads to the bigger question: which is greater, their survival for life, or for each other?

Ken’Ja is an enchanting tale that captivates from the first page to the last. I was caught up in the moment wondering what would really happen to Tige if he gave into his desire. Bernadette Gardner gives her characters great emotional contact and leaves the reader chanting for more. Do not miss this one.
