Lady Adela MacLeod has not been very lucky in matrimony to date. Abducted from her first marriage before she could take her vows, then held for a fortnight before being rescued. Upon finally marrying her husband she is left a widow barely an hour later when he dies at the wedding banquet. Now she must decide what is in her best interests; not just what everyone else thinks she should do.

Sir Robert Logan of Lestalric is a knight with a Holy mission. Part of the Scottish Knights Templar, and now a Baron due to the murder of both his father and older brother, he must return to claim his inheritance. Little did he know he would need all his wits and his dearest friends and allies to help defeat a greedy monster. He has also been smitten with Lady Adela and has befriended her and now must try to keep her safe at all costs.

Adela was to marry someone she did not know and accepted her life as a wife to an older man. She could never have anticipated that at his death she would be accused of murder and be in even more danger than before. With her life in turmoil she has only her family and friends to rely on including Sir Robert Logan. When she realized her fate might rest in his hands she was bound and determined not to be left behind and in the dark. She wanted no secrets or lies amongst them especially now that they had married in secret to keep her safe.

This is part of a series I read, but it has been a while since the last, I have thoroughly enjoyed the continuing saga of the MacLeod sisters. Adela is the calm and clear headed one that has definitely made this a fun journey. Equality with women was unheard of in this era but this series shows strong female heroines and equally respectful heroes as their magnificent counterparts. That is also why I love these books, the research is fantastic and it is a part of Scotland many not know too much about. Most readers will find that these women can be just as strong as their mates. This is a series I recommend, each book can stand alone but would suggest reading them all. I now am awaiting the next installment of the next sister Sidony later this summer.
