James Mailer knows he has done the unforgivable and that he has two choices. He can spend rest of his life behind bars, or take the alternative sentencing known as the Last Wish, which seems the best way instead of facing years of appeals.

Megan Ritter knows, with this being her first field assignment, she must do one of the toughest things she has ever been faced with doing. Getting to know James and making him happy is the least she can do.

As James begins his sentence, the only thing he wants to do is enjoy the one place that made him happy in his life; his grandfather's cabin in Texas. So it is unexpected when he meets Megan and they strike up a friendship that quickly turns into more. He realizes that he does not want to spend the time alone and she makes him happy. What else can he do when he is facing the last days of his life?

This story is surprisingly well-written. I was gripped by James's story from beginning to end. Mr. Daemon manages to touch the reader's heart while telling a painful story. The storyline itself is one that, who knows, could become believable in the years ahead. I enjoyed this read immensely.
