Hallie is a young bride who moves with her new husband to the wilds of Nebraska. Determined to find their way in the frontier, Hallie works hard to establish a home under hard conditions. She faces numerous hardships and begins to long for their old home in Missouri.
Will McCain is proud to be Hallie’s husband. When the chance to have their own land comes in the form of homesteading in Nebraska, he jumps on it. He is ready to make their place in the new state and is thrilled about all the changes that come with the new land.
Together the young couple faces all the joys and horrors of life in the wilderness. The dangers, though, may come too fast and too hard for Hallie, and the chance to return to the safety of their families may tear them apart.
Leather Hinges is an interesting historical that truly highlights how difficult it was for homesteaders. The book is written cryptically at times, and I had to read some passages more than once to get a clear idea of what was happening. I was so caught up in the plot that the re-reading was worth it. There is only implied sex, but the story is more about the history, the struggle, and how love makes suffering worthwhile. This Leather Hinges is such a good book.
