LORI DERBY BINGLEY
Rating: 4 Cups
April, a widow, is an editor for a publishing house. Her brother is a perpetual screw-up, but she never thought that he would be arrested for murder.
Caleb McKinley is a very ambitious A.D.A. and the brutal murder of a stripper could just make his career, but something about the sister of prime suspect makes him think again.
Someone from Abigail Matthews’ past is targeting her and her two children. He means to make them pay for her sins in the past. Her son’s unsavory past makes him an ideal victim and her daughter’s relationship with the A.D.A may jeopardize everyone. No one is what they seem in this story.
This is a very suspenseful novel with two very strong main characters. Every time I thought I had it all figured out the author tossed another twist into the plot. The actual villain will come as a complete surprise, I never saw it coming, I was totally engrossed in the story from the beginning. April is a very sympathetic and courageous but not saccharine character and Caleb is very complex and not always a nice guy. The romance between Caleb and April though improbable, is very well written and the reader will be uncertain about his motives. By the middle of the story I was suspecting everyone! All of the characters are very vivid and well developed and the dialogue is natural and easy to follow. Even the stripper victims have unexpected aspects to their lives. The ending is a definite nail biter.
