Ria Rodriquez works for Leo Vanderale, the first breed ever to be created in the Genetics Council’s labs. She has been sent to Sanctuary, the main home base for Callan Lyons’ pride, to check up on their spending habits, or so it seems. However, there is more to Ria than meets the eye, and Mercury is just the man to dig out those secrets she is hiding.
Mercury Warrant is one of the breeds who actually has physical characteristics that favor his lion genetics. His eyes appear to be lined with coal, and his facial features are a tad flatter than most of the other breeds. His mate was killed many years before and he has resigned himself to the fact that he will not have another.
When Ria arrives at Sanctuary and Mercury is assigned to be her bodyguard and companion, she is less than pleased. Mercury is too good looking for her peace of mind. She is aware that his mate was killed and since breeds mate for life and only have one mate, she thinks she can never be his mate, and she does not want to be second best. However, it is not long before what is in each of them calls to the other, and they give in to their passions. Ria is quickly head over heels for Mercury, but can she stand knowing she will never be his mate? As if this was not bad enough, the woman everyone thought was dead appears, and Mercury seems to be going feral. Ely, the only breed doctor, is acting strangely too, wanting to have Mercury put in a cage so she can use the same drugs on him that the Genetics Council scientists did that killed his breed senses. Who is trying to destroy Sanctuary and the breeds, and why? Ria and Mercury must find the answers before it is too late.
I have read every single one of the books in this series, and Mercury’s War is the best to date! I absolutely loved it! The action is non-stop and full of surprises. You never know what is going to happen from one minute to the next and when something does happen, you are totally surprised by the outcome. Ms. Leigh does a fantastic job of drawing the reader into the action from the very first page. The world building is absolutely beyond par excellence bar none. The sparks that fly between Ria and Mercury from the very first page are hot enough to start a building on fire, and kept this reader very entertained throughout the book. The sex is so hot and emotional that you wonder how they survived it without going up in flames. I am waiting with baited breath for the next book in this series and will be one of the first in line to get my copy. You do not want to miss this one, or any of the other books in this series for that matter!
