Josh Mackay is an ex-marine who worked for the “Agency.” He met Kiran Brunner while on assignment to capture the Minder. However, they do the unthinkable and fall for each other. Then another Minder named Brad traumatizes Josh and gives him the suggestion to kill Kir. Nevertheless, Josh, a broken man, fights the compulsion by choosing to hide from his lover, hoping to keep him safe.

Kiran Brunner is a Minder with the psychic ability to manipulate and kill. Those that wish to use him are hunting him and Kir will fight to escape the Agency that once abused him. Through all this Josh and Kir become lovers. One-day returning home Kir finds evidence leading him to believe Josh is dead. However, Kir refuses to believe it.

When Brad manipulates the mind of Josh with the compulsion to kill Kir, Josh turns on Brad and murders him. Then Josh escapes, hiding from both the agency and Kir. He fears he might weaken and follow through with the impulse. Josh stays underground until word reaches him that the agency has sent someone to kill Kir. Desperate to rescue Kir, Josh rushes to save him. Kir and Josh reunite but to their horror are recaptured by the agency. Finally, the time has come for Kir to use his powers to try and destroy the agency and rescue Josh.

This was an imaginative and enthralling book. However, I floundered somewhat trying to grasp the story. I feel it is necessary to read the other two books in the Minder series first. I definitely plan to read them so I can catch up with this storyline. Ms. Skye has created a very thought provoking concept with this series. I look forward to reading future stories about some of the other characters too.
