Ian Flynn is in Wisconsin to do business, but he had not banked on being surrounded by the very things he would rather avoid, namely, women and children. Easily dealing with the daily issues surrounding his business, presenting him with an unexpected and not so easy challenge is one particularly determined woman.

While Lucy Mitchell is enjoying her years counseling children at the Moonlight Bay Camp for Kids in Butternut Creek, a rich stranger from the big city appears, threatening to put an end to her cherished world. Preparing to do whatever it takes to protect her safe haven and refuge, Lucy embarks on a range of methods challenging the stranger to leave town.

Ian has every right to be in Wisconsin as, unbeknownst to Lucy, he has been invited by the camp's owner to discuss the sale of the camp to his firm. Lucy automatically goes into the defensive, doing all she can to protect the interests of all. Inevitably, life is changing before her eyes and Lucy is not prepared or wants to see change. Ian is confident that, regardless of whatever Lucy wants, he is maintaining that it is business as usual for him. But, Lucy is growing on him and getting under his skin in a way no other woman has been able to do. Nonetheless, to complete business matters, Ian sticks around to the very end.

A brilliant first novel. Tess Morrison skilfully eases the reader through dramas and depictions of life changing events. The characters are all realistic and I particularly admired the character in Lucy. Her strong beliefs and advocacy when fighting for her cause and others. Ian and Lucy are both strong and stubborn characters that I was enmeshed in the dynamics of their involvement with one another and interested in discovering the outcome of their conflicting pursuits.
