Ashley Wilkes has thoughts of lying on the beach and enjoying the water. After the historic preservationist discovers her friend, Val, dead in the art gallery, her plans change.
Jon Campbell is a good friend to Ashley. Together they restore houses, but he carries a secret that he desperately wishes to reveal to her.
It was supposed to be a nice visit with her sister, Melanie, in an oceanfront cottage, but murder decided to change the course of Ashley’s plans. With a friend shot and killed, missing artwork, and the feeling she is being followed, things really heat up. As Ashley puts the pieces together, it appears there are many dark secrets. She even gets the feeling the neighbors are extremely mistrustful. Luckily, Jon is keeping his eye on her, but there is much more he needs to express. To make matters worse, her husband, Nick, is away on a business matter, and not returning her calls. Something is truly amiss and Ashley can only hope she is not next in line for the killer.
Ellen Elizabeth Hunter had me so captivated into the lives of the characters that when I finished reading, I had to ask, why. I cannot say what, because it will give away the book, but she carries me deep into the story, making everything come vibrantly alive, yet the ending just stuns me. One certainly feels a part of this family in Murder at Wrightsville Beach as they join the search for the killer and the devastating events that follow. These endearing players became so much a part of my life that there were times I wanted to scream at them, then hug them the next moment. The ending just leaves me miffed, a bit, because the characters are still so vivid in my head, especially Nick, in this thrilling read.
