Harriet Smith loved a boy in school who disappeared on her. She is now a successful artist and has to return home for her mother-in-law’s surgery. This is the last thing she wants but knows it will be good for her and her son, Zach. She just hopes that she will finally be able to tell her secret. She has kept many secrets and now feels she needs to let go of them. She has to realize it is not the right time but the right words that matter most.

Jack Porter is not so keen on returning to Doolittle, but agrees to return for his father’s sake. He is the successful CEO of his own music company. At first, he does not want to return home but when a woman catches his eye, things seem to change for him. He has no idea of how fast his past is going to collide with his present. But once it does, he needs to have a level head and that does not come easy for him. He is definitely an emotional man.

Harriet returns home for Christmas and recognizes Jake on sight. She now has to find the right time to tell him what she has kept from him for so long. Their passion re-ignites and they try to figure out what is going on between them. Both are stunned at how quickly things heat up. They just cannot get enough of one another. Neither of them ever plans to get married. Harriet does her best to keep a clear head but with Jake around, she finds herself becoming a fumbling teenager again as emotions long kept in check burst forth. Harriet will have to learn how to embrace them. She hopes that when she does tell Jake her secret, he will not want her out of his life forever. Jake does not even recognize her at first but when he finally does, it sends his world in a tailspin.

Ms. North writes a wonderful novel. I was laughing and crying throughout the book. Some of the minor characters really rounded out the story very well. I was thoroughly immersed in the story line. Jake and Harriet have much to figure out and this time they are not the only ones whose happiness is at stake. At times, the story did seem predictable, but reactions to certain situations can be. Other than that, I was pleased with how well things ended. This is a wonderful book!
