Bailey Montgomery is on leave from her job as an editor for the magazine Chicago Today. Her mother’s death has brought her to the small town of Perry for the funeral she did not see coming. Her grief is compounded with knowledge that she was not there for her mother when she needed her most.
Doug Kenny works in construction and is an all around handy man. Missy Montgomery was a close friend, and he will mourn her passing. Her daughter however is nothing like her mother, but he is intrigued nonetheless.
Bailey is fed up with the constant barrage of well-wishers. She just wants to be left alone with her pain. Her mother never let on how sick she truly was, and now Bailey is left to clean up her home and her belongings. The most infuriating visitor is Doug the local mister fix-it. He is also absolutely sexy, and she cannot help the heat that sears straight to her core with just a look. Doug is disgusted with himself over his attraction to Bailey. She is rude, foul-mouthed, and downright hot! The sparks fly when Doug convinces Bailey to let him fix up the house for sale. But who will be hurt the most when the time comes for Bailey to go home? Because Chicago is her home, and everything she has ever wanted is there, or is it?
This story may be the best way to combat a cold winter day. If it does not heat you up, nothing will. The characters are sexy and sassy. Their bickering is only so much foreplay to the main event, and it will not leave you wanting. Ms. Byrnes puts so much spunk and passion in her work, it made me an instant fan.
