Historical Romance
Rating: 4 Cups

Helen has gone from one horrible situation to another. She escaped her vicious religious maniac of an uncle and ran away with her brother to London. Their only hope is to find their grandfather and hope that he will take them in. She is offered employment but finds herself drugged and auctioned off in a brothel.

Sebastian has only visited the brothel to find his brother’s ladylove. Rumor has it that Madame Chantrel has been kidnapping innocent women and auctioning them off to the highest bidder. While Caleb’s girl is not in evidence tonight, the one on the auction block appeals to him more than anyone ever has.

In London during the time of Jack the Ripper, a young woman escapes her uncle and travels to town in search of her grandfather. During her adventures, she finds love and more danger than she ever imagined existed.

I really enjoyed this historical romance. Sebastian is a great character; tormented by guilt after his mother’s accidental death, he imposes order on all parts of his life. He cannot impose order on Helen, which makes her even more attractive to him. Helen is a very strong character. Abused from an early age, she finds the courage to escape and find a better future. The romance between the two characters is very involving, while the supporting characters add to the drama. The author has created a vivid picture of the anxious times surrounding the Whitechapel murders and brought the characters and the city of that time to life.
