Jim Morgan is haunted by the memory of the death of Sophie Alberquist. She was the only daughter of Senator John Alberquist. In an attempt to forget and move on he had been gambling and doing quite well, acquiring a rather large sum of money. During this latest game he had come across a beautiful blonde that reminded him of Sophie and on impulse had asked her out to dinner. While he was charming the cards at the poker table, he had received several urgent calls from Eunice North, a former boss and girlfriend. Ignoring the calls, he told himself, he would call her when he had a chance. What she wanted could put his life in danger.
Eunice North is the director of the Institute of Intuitive Thought located in Washington D. C. Her good friend Senator Alberquist had confided in her about a plot to flush out the notorious international master spy and terrorist Margolova by using James Morgan as bait. Knowing her former employee and ex-fiancé, she had offered to flush him out in the guise of needing him for an assignment. She would use the institute’s research into the enhancing properties of a rare Brazilian orchid which could greatly increase any intuitive’s powers as a reason to be in Sao Paulo. Fighting her residual feelings for Morgan, she set out to entice him back into her employment. If only she could get him to return one of her calls. She found out why he was ignoring her calls when she had been given information that he was supposed to meet a young blonde author by the name of Catherine Harris, who coincidentally resembled the senator’s dead daughter Sophie.
Intrigued with the beautiful Catherine, Jim found himself examining his feelings for the dearly departed Sophie and trying to make peace with the memories of his brief engagement to Eunice. Catherine was swept away by her own burgeoning feelings for the suave and handsome Jim Morgan having never experienced the depth of feeling he inspired in her. Both decided to let their hearts choose their actions unknowingly putting themselves in the path of danger.
Ms. Catherine Burr and Mr. James Halon have written an action packed, fast paced tome that will have you turning pages in a blur of excitement. Once I started reading it I could not put it down. The underlying currents of love lost, and love found, fuel these characters as does the thought of revenge and vindication. You will get caught up in the new love of Catherine and Jim’s as well as feel for the yearning of Eunice’s love that refused to let go. I loved the action and the brutality of Margolova demands her demise. Any reader will want her death too.
