| OVER AND UNDER: A DON PACKHAM, FRANK MITCHELL MYSTERY MAT COWARD ISBN# 0-373-26541-7 September 2005 Harlequin Worldwide Mystery www.eharlequin.com Paperback $4.79 Pages: 253 Mystery Rating: Detective Constable, Frank Mitchell, of Cowden CID is married with a young son. He is first on the scene of a homicide outside a cricket pavilion where a man has been found murdered with a baseball bat. He is the calm one of a detective duo, and their latest case is one of the oddest murders yet. Detective Inspector, Don Packham, is Frank’s boss. He is much older than Frank and has never been married. His manic personality keeps his partner on his toes as they try to solve their latest case. Frank and Don’s latest murder mystery takes place after the annual cricket match between the Comedians and the Writers, a mixture of comics and collectors of comic memorabilia. The victim, Bruce Lester, is an accountant for one of the comics and a collector of memorabilia. He is found murdered wearing a women’s dress. Frank and Don have a number of suspects, but few clues. Could it be the much younger wife or was some fanatic fan obsessed enough to commit murder? This is a well-plotted mystery set in modern London. Mr. Coward has a strong grasp of the life, language, and humor of London. The two detectives are very well drawn, and their different personalities compliment each other, bringing humor to the story. There is a lot of English humor throughout the story, which some people may not understand, so I feel this book is better suited for people who love English style mysteries.
