Mandy Dyer owns Dyers Cleaners and tries to keep opinions about her customer’s apparel to herself until Ardith Brewster changes her clothing style. It came as a surprise to hear Ardith had a new beau, but a shock to hear later she is dead.

Travis Kincaid is a private investigator who Mandy nursed back to health after taking a bullet in his leg. They have a history going back to high school and are considering moving in together.

Mandy is more than shocked when she hears Ardith has been murdered. She never even gave the name of her new beau. Even Mandy’s helpers are surprised with the news. Mandy wonders could it have been a male customer that came to her store. Further snooping shows three other women have been murdered. She decides to look into the records to see if they were any of her customers at one time. Detective Ivinson is working on the case and wants Mandy to give him the names of her customers. She does not wish to voluntary give out that information. He informs it is a murder case and knows how to deal with people like her. With the shuffling of events and a murderer still at large, Mandy, along with her helpers, will stop at nothing to find the culprit but Mandy feels Travis is the only help she has left.

Pressed to Kill is a mystery this reader thoroughly enjoyed. I like the cozy atmosphere of the town’s people, the flow of friends, who surround Mandy, not to mention even the meddling mother, everyone has one of these. Dolores Johnson creates a down home feel as if being right outside of Denver in Cherry Creek at the dry cleaners. She makes Mandy a charming character. I love how Mandy thinks some of the others may think her nosy as she dives into likely suspects. The way Mandy and her staff, speculate on the events is like reveling in the mystery itself. They create some quick wit in this satisfying read.
