Maya is a selkie, both a seal and a human. In order to save her sister from the man who
stole her skin, she offers her own skin and her freedom in return. He promises to free
her when she has pleased him enough, but she finds herself falling in love with the
human who tricked and imprisoned her.
Iain has always been fascinated by selkies and has dreamed of capturing one. Maya
presents him with the chance of a lifetime, to have a selkie as a pet. He thinks little of
her feelings, just his own wants, and he wants Maya.
A selkie gives up her freedom and possibly her life to save her sister and finds herself
falling in love with her captor. The captor starts out thinking of her as a pet, but ends up
falling in love.
This is an interesting story based on selkie lore. A captured selkie has to do anything
that the holder of their skin says, but a selkie too long out of the sea fades away. Selfish
Iain is very hard to like, he is spoiled and arrogant. Maya is a bit of a doormat and her
strange behavior is a little disturbing in the beginning. Both characters evolve into very
likeable people, and the sex scenes are numerous and well written.
