Jonathan is brought back in this book as his life is viewed after the year apart from
Carrie. In the first book, Jonathan was a neurotic perfectionist, and breathed the fiber of
flawlessness. In Safe Word, he was more tangible as a person. His display of flaws
and warm characteristics set him apart from his original portrayal.
Carrie has been sold and is with her new owner in Greece. Myths of BDSM are pushed
to a new level as Carrie embarks on a more rigorous training to pleasure. The end
decision though is now hers to make as she defines direction to her life. Should her life
continue in its current motion or should she break away to try something new.
With very intense and vivid imagery, this book is not intended for those faint of heart.
Along with the continuation of the sexual life of Carrie, Safe Word takes the realm of
BDSM to an expanded plane. It is best to compare the wonderful and detailed brilliancy
of this book to the series, The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty by Anne Rice. Ms.
Weatherfield ranks up in the leading light by indulging readers with a rare view to a
secret world. The view of human ponies and the relationship between master and slave
still holds the delicate line and foundation of trust. I commend Ms. Weatherfield on a
breathtaking book.
