Jodi Baker works for Holliday’s International Travel Online US., or HIT on Us for short. Working in an all female office can be quite challenging and the ladies all try and spice things up by making bets, so when their boss hires a token male who happens to be a hunk, the bets fly. Being the voice of sanity for the bunch, Jodi declines to participate in the seduction of the newbie.
Brent Davison tries to settle into the estrogen filled atmosphere of his new job and desperately deflects attempts to attract his interest. The only one not throwing herself at him, or stuffing him with baked goods, is his neighbor from across the aisle. Of course she is also the one he is most interested in. Her quick wit and sharp tongue only increases his curiosity.
When their boss picks them for a special project and moves them into an office, the cramped quarters force them to confront their feelings head on. With both of them being secretive about their pain, it becomes increasingly obvious that they have commitment issues.
Ms. Cynthianna Appel has written a witty account of the foibles of dating in the twenty-first century. Jodi is the quintessential modern woman with her independent ways, while Brent has an extremely vulnerable side he hides with his aloof manner. They both show remarkable tenderness towards each other once the barriers are breached and the underlying motives are exposed. The typical office setting creates a great backdrop filled with varied characters that people the story nicely. I enjoyed this book.
