The Archdiocese sends Sean O’Riley to act as an investigative liaison between the Institute and the authorities. Clever-minded and quite astute, his work begins as soon as he arrives and quickly sets the State’s investigator on edge, in more ways than one.

Agent Hillary Scott of the State Bureau of Investigation is sent to the Institute to get in, find the murderer, and wrap things up as quickly as possible. She meets resistance and plans to plow through, until Sean O’Riley appears and starts to get better results than she, driving her crazy and bringing her closer to liking him for more than just his mind.

The murders are the work of a twisted mind hell-bent on atoning for past sins, and feeding the demons haunting within. Ritualistic and exacting, he slowly makes his way to his final goal, hoping the deed will please the one person who haunts him most. Sean and Hillary find themselves matching wits with this madman, racing to stop him before it is too late. They never expect their teamwork to lead to discoveries inside themselves as well as all around them.

I enjoyed how the author plays this mystery out in her novel. The reader knows who the murderer is from the start, but the whys and the sucker punch at the very end make for shocking twists and turns on every page. This was well-crafted with rich characters, a surprisingly well-balanced mix of the erotic and sinister, and a stunning murder plot woven into every one of their lives. For those who like a whodunit with a twist, this is a definite must read.
