Lady Kendra St James, darling of 1813 London Society, moves to save her foolish brother once again. He has lost their father’s precious gold watch in a poker match. Kendra wastes no time setting off on an American privateer’s ship to retrieve it.

Captain Ashton is both surprised and amused by Kendra’s accidental presence on his boat, along with her brother. Caught in some crossfire, they have no time to get off the ship before Ash orders his men to flee. Ash sees the spirited Kendra as a woman he can respect, but he cannot let her know that.

Faced with being a cabin boy for the duration of the journey, Kendra tries to come to terms with her situation. Her attraction to Ash builds and their fiery relationship is interspersed with quite some adventure. Already promised to another at home, and knowing her parents would be horrified at any interest she showed in Captain Ashton, Kendra wonders just how she will get out of all this. Because he is not the marrying kind, Ash promised to step aside and leave his first mate to try to win Kendra’s heart. But Ash finds the attraction too great. The ship comes under attack and they must abandon it. But this only the beginning of Ash and Kendra’s love story.

An historical romance that will keep you reading this book in one sitting. Every character is portrayed with vigor and feeling. I loved Kendra’s excitement and independence. Ash makes the perfect irrepressible hero. Shelter From The Storm really drew me in from the first page, and I have no doubt it will do the same for any reader. A book offering depth and emotion, it is a superbly entertaining read.
