Alarija is the last left on her planet Zalaban. She is the sacrifice for the Sacred Eye, an asteroid that is zooming towards Zalaban and will soon destroy it. Her powers, and her virginity, are supposed to help her and the Masters help save the planet, even if it means Alarija loses her life in the process.

Captain Gerano “Gerry” Lasalle of the Lucero, mans the last starship evacuating the last of the inhabitants of Zalaban. When one of them tries to escape with a shuttle he is brought before Gerry. It is Marsalir the bodyguard and protector of Alarija. He convinces Gerry to go back and save her.

Gerry leaves Soro in charge of the Lucero to go to Zalaban and save Alarija. By killing Marsalir the Elders have now helped Alarija because now Gerry claims the life for a life law. While waiting for the end of her world as she knows it Alarija discovers she has been deceived and is ready to leave when Gerry rescues her, giving up her virginity to prove it, she is no willing pawn now.

In a future world, when all hope is bleak there is still a spark, a chance that there is still a future. This was a quick and enjoyable tale showing us that even those in power deceive and kill for it. Prepared to sacrifice herself until she finds she has been duped, she does all she can to live. The feelings and love and chemistry in this book make for a very nice read. I also loved that even one person can make a difference to save a world or a single life and none are wasted. The ending is best, Gerry and Alarija get to have it all, including marriage and life together against all odds.
