Serene Fremont is a bit of a hermit. Ostracized locally because her mother murdered her abusive husband, she lives out in the woods in the cabin her grandfather built. An income from an insurance policy and selling an occasional painting provide for all of her needs.
Brice Wintre is back in Widow because his mother has cancer. He needs an excuse to stay around and his college roommate’s development scheme is the perfect opportunity. He just has to charm the owner of the necessary land out of her home.
Serene Fremont is determined to stay in her home and a local developer is just as determined to convince her to sell her land. That determination could become deadly and Brice Wintre is caught in the middle.
This is a pretty engrossing story. Serene seems a little odd at first; that is, until the author introduces her to you more fully. Brice comes off as a slick businessman, and he is, but he truly cares for his family and falls for Serene very quickly. Phillip is out and out greedy, but Becky his fiancée and Serene’s friend is a dark horse. I love the other characters also, including the animals. Shawn and Amy are a particularly appealing couple that I would have liked to know more about. The suspenseful plot and well written dialogue make this a very enjoyable tale.
