Skylar Halifax owns a nursery and feels a deep connection with plants and animals. She has the ability to heal them, but people make her uncomfortable. Skylar is the epitome of an old soul, no pun intended. She has empathy for even her greatest enemies, and her flashes of prophesy give hope.

Duse Ammadon is a Watcher and has been waiting for his True Mate to be reincarnated for over four hundred years now. He has been particularly anxious since his elder brother Bale’s mate was murdered several years before. Duse is kind of scary, but will protect Skylar with everything he has.

Duse is looking for his mate and needs to find her before her Second Change. An evil force is murdering First Change women, and his brother is acting strangely. This is all the more reason to claim Skylar and keep her safe from the evil and imprisoned Day, and the human who is helping him.

The love scenes are very good and numerous, and the other watchers are very well described. I enjoyed the subplot of Ainge and Sherry and would like to see more of them. Bale and Jax also deserve their own stories. Day is a truly disgusting and creepy villain. The Watcher society and customs are pretty confusing, and although the glossary helps, sometimes it is not enough. The suspense and romance of this book will keep readers looking for more.
