Brenna Kennedy is a Boston librarian, the baby in her family, and she is also the Warden of the Sorhineth, a book about the Terrans, their history, spells and power. They are another race co-existing with humans for eons. She is entrusted to care for this tome with her life.

Donovan Callahan is a Terran, a Protector and more. He is also a Talisman, the Spirit Talisman in fact of their race, powerful in his own element but even more when he comes in contact with the Sorhineth. Living in San Francisco was a refuge for Donovan, but not now.

Brenna and Donovan hook up for protection not only for the Sorhineth but for her, since she must travel with the bespelled book. Terrans may want to possess it but without the Warden it is useless, Brenna must be within three yards of it to be visible. The time has come to do what is right and take control back and not rely on other Terrans. Mother Nature is angry and it is up to Donovan with Brenna and the book to save the world from her and the Destroyers using their powers for deadly causes.

This is but the first in a new urban fantasy series. Set in the near past when many natural disasters and tragedies struck our world, this book makes quite an impact. If we believe this tale, many of the disasters were not natural but helped along. This premise shows our world in a new way, especially Mother Nature at her worst. Using beings with preternatural powers to control the elements in our modern age makes this believable. I loved both the strong characters, an alpha male and his equally strong mate. It takes these two people doing what is right to save the world, even when no one knows it.
