| THE BABY SLEEP BOOK WILLIAM SEARS, M.D., ROBERT SEARS, M.D., JAMES SEARS, M.D., MARTHA SEARS, R.N. ISBN # 0-316-10771-9 October 2005 Little, Brown and Company, Time Warner Book Group 1271 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10020 Paperback $14.95 288 pages Home & Family/Family/Child Care/Relationships Rating: Many parents have a difficult time getting enough sleep when their children are young. Care of babies and toddlers often occurs at times when parents would normally be sleeping. This book gives them practical tips to make it through the rough times when sleep is needed, but not forthcoming. The book begins with steps and tips to get babies, toddlers, and preschoolers to sleep better. Other chapters address different aspects of sleep issues, from the joys of sleeping in the same bed as your child to show how to transition toddlers to a “big kid bed.” Night feeding and weaning are discussed and the importance of father involvement is stressed. Possible medical causes of sleep problems are also detailed. Babies must be taught to sleep through the night. In order to do so parents must know the proper way to teach. The often extolled “cry it out” method is not as effective as many believe. This book gives other methods to help parents raise a more content and balanced child. I found the book practical and easy to understand. The doctors are respected pediatricians who have written many other books on parenting issues that are sure to give parents a better understanding of their children. I like the way they come across to readers; as helpful and knowledgeable but not overbearing or condemning. This is an absolutely terrific book that is sure to help many parents get much needed peaceful rest. Susan White Reviewer for Karen Find Out About New Books Reviewer for Coffee Time Romance |
