Rating:

Penelope was sent away at a young age for her protection from her Uncle's household.
She was raised by her aging grandfather. He insisted she was his lost son; therefore, he
raised her as a boy. However, Penelope wanted to be a priestess, never to marry.
When it was time for her beautiful cousin to marry, her uncle feared the turned away
suitors would turn against him. To keep peace among the disappointed, her uncle sent
for Helen to sacrifice in marriage.

Odysseus was a suitor for Helen's hand, but preferred the strength of her small dark
cousin, Penelope. Through cunning and much planning, he won the promise of marriage
from her Uncle Tyndareos.

Odysseus and Penelope traveled to his home of Ithaka, where they forged a deep love
that bonded them together. It was so strong that neither time nor treachery could pull
them apart. When war broke out and he was sent to fight, he sailed from their home.
Penelope waited faithfully, the fabled twenty years for his return.

Ms. Levigne has written a compelling tale based on the Greek classic in a unique point
of view. She has the reader gripped from the very beginning. The characters are strong
and likable and you have no choice but to keep turning the pages. I enjoyed this tale of
history and could not put it down.
