Javel Marquand is working undercover as a detention officer in the Zurin Five

Xerna Ariante has been a detention officer on Zurin Five for the past three years.
Suffering from cycles where her body emits pheromones, the planet’s isolation suits her
just fine. When she encounters her childhood friend Javel, it throws her in “Heat”
unexpectedly and she fights to ward off her irresistible urges to mate with him as he
becomes increasingly confused by her strange behavior.
Xerna and Javel, thrown together by circumstances, are faced with the imminent
destruction of the planet with no visible escape. To compound the situation, they are
forced to fight off dangerous prisoners suffering from Styx withdrawal and their
undeniable hormonal hunger for each other. Will they be able to control their own
bodies?
Ms. Karmela Johnson has written a suspense filled novel that captured and kept my
attention till the conclusion. The heroine’s struggles with her mixed heritage, with its
unique capabilities will make any reader feel for her. The hero’s own sense of
inadequacy makes his initial actions understandable and his ultimate realization a
welcome conclusion. I liked this book.
