Lady Isabelle de Harvington was just fifteen when she is allowed to attend the wedding of the Prince of Wales, Llewelyn, to Joan, the illegitimate daughter of the King of England. There Isabelle had a run in with one of Prince Llewelyn’s friends, Gruffydd ap Hywel. Six years later and much to Isabelle’s surprise and horror she finds herself being married off to him per orders of the King of England.

Gruffydd ap Hywel, Lord of the Welsh Cantref of Taran, friend to Prince Llewelyn discovers himself in England for the wedding. The ever watchful Gruffydd sees Lady Isabelle get herself into a awkward position and rescues her. And now he has been told that he is to marry her. The King of England and the Prince of Wales feel that by marrying Gruffydd and Isabelle this will help to squelch some of the warring.

Once married, Gruffydd hopes that Lady Isabelle will return to England. He decides it is best not to consummate their marriage, because he does not want to become attached to Isabelle. And Isabelle is concerned with this decision. But as time goes by and with them being in such close proximity, the feelings within them build until the inevitable happens in a fiery explosion of passion. But with warring going on will Isabelle and Gruffydd be able to make a real marriage out of this, or will Gruffydd end up dying in one of these scrimmages?

This book is top notch. It will keep you guessing as to who the Black Dragon is. And hold you riveted to the pages to see if Gruffyd and Isabelle will succumb to their fiery passions. It is a very well thought out and composed novel. With the Welsh language sprinkled through out. The author is very helpful with instructions on pronunciation, which I found very intriguing.
