Centurion Marius Markus Lardanium has been a soldier all his life. He fights for the Romans and follows the rules very carefully. Yet he will not let debts go unpaid, no matter what he has to do. Never thinking a woman would come into it, now Marius has to figure out not only how to get his debts paid, but the emotions running through him every time he spots the woman brought to his camp.
Delia has run most of her life, but nothing ever comes of it. It never seems to last for very long. Her brother Conall wants her nearby, but she would rather help the people that she looks after since she is queen. She does not see that her way out may come from an unexpected source. Her emotions just might lead the way.
Dealing with a lot of troubles, it does not help that her brother Conall is not around. Delia has done her best to make sure things are seen to properly. But it all falls apart when some of her men are captured and she has to figure out how to get them back. It does not seem like The Centurion will be much help, but Delia does not have many options. Their hearts might just be able to help them in ways they never thought possible.
Ms. Meador weaves a beautiful story that I could not get enough of. Her characters are so full of life and were enjoyable to read. The setting was great too, since it is one of my favorite time periods. I could only hope that Delia and Marius would come through it all right no matter what happened between them. This is one author that I would love to read more and hope to see how she deals with more situations in her stories.
