Lee McKinney Woodyard is business manager of TenHuis Chocolade. She has been asked to be the treasurer for the annual Warner Pier WinterFest. Everything goes great until a juror for the art show decides to cancel, and the second one chosen is killed.

Dr. Fletcher Mendenhall is called in as another judge for the art show when a juror backs out. The substitute is excited to see Lee when she picks him up at the airport. Too many drinks have made him a bit tipsy and breathing down Lee’s neck does not help.

Lee is busy as usual during the holiday season, and more so when asked to serve as treasurer for the WinterFest. To make matters more complicated, a juror cancels and another one is chosen who flies in from out of town. When husband, Joe, is unable to go to the airport to pick up the Fletcher, Lee goes instead. What she finds is a man who has had too many drinks and believes it gives him the right to make a pass at her. Lee immediately takes him to the hotel and drops him off at his room. The next day proves even more complicated when Lee and Joe learn Mendenhall has been murdered, and the police suspect them. Neither Lee nor Joe will take the investigation sitting down as they set out to prove their innocence.

Christmas time is such a lovely occasion but reading a chocoholic mystery while hearing all about the scrumptious chocolate desserts makes it better. Add a murder, some mayhem and a cozy, crackling fire, and the read gets even better. Lee is a character I immediately fell in love with. She and Joe match beautifully together. I enjoyed the little chocolate trivia, as well as sugar treats, throughout this pleasurable read. Joanna Carl sketches a solid good read, just like a delicious piece of chocolate, completely satisfying. The secondary characters, as well as the beautiful town, come alive with each turn of the page. With a great plot and exceptional writing, this read is outstanding. Grab some hot cocoa, a bowl of chocolate and savor each magic moment Ms. Carl brings to the reader.
